In Akitsu Town, Higashihiroshima City, Hiroshima Prefecture, there is an uninhabited island called "Ryuojima" where you can camp, which is rare in Japan!

In this article, we take a close look at how a family living in Higashihiroshima City who loves camping enjoys camping on Ryuojima. We will introduce recommended points and attractions that you can enjoy only by camping on Ryuojima!

*Overnight camping is available from May 1st to November 30th.

Overnight camping on uninhabited island "Ryuojima" in Higashihiroshima

Ferry to Ryuojima | Landing on a deserted island!

To go to Ryuojima, you will take a ferry and land on the island.

Depart by boat from Kazehaya Pier in Kazehaya, Akitsu-cho, Higashihiroshima City!

It takes about 8 minutes to put on a life jacket, load your luggage, and board the boat.

After taking videos and chatting, we arrived at Ryuojima Pier in no time.

As you approach the pier of Ryuojima, you will be greeted by staff from the Silver Human Resources Center. We will all work together to carry the luggage.

*Since the ferry is a small boat, please be careful about the amount of luggage you carry. Also, if you have a lot of luggage, it will be difficult to load and unload, so it is recommended that you carry as little luggage as possible.

There is an administration building on the island with a "playroom" where recreation and training sessions can be held. Staff will always be on hand whenever there are visitors to the island, so you can enjoy your stay with peace of mind.

In addition, dishes and cooking utensils are provided, as well as hot showers, flush toilets, and running water (well water is used, so be sure to boil it before eating or drinking).

Assembling the tent at the campsite

The campsite is on a hill about 200m away from the pier.

To get to the top of the hill, walk along a concrete slope or stairs.

After walking for about 3 minutes from the pier, you will arrive at the campsite!

The campsite is flat and has a wide expanse of grass. There is also space between the neighboring sites, so you can spend your time in a relaxed and open space!

Now let's start assembling the tent we brought in.

The tent sites are 4.7 meters x 4.7 meters and divided into 16 sites.

We also have rental tents (please apply at time of reservation).

The rental tents are a bit old, but even those of us (reporting team) who are inexperienced with camping were able to assemble them without any problems.

Dinner|Luxurious camping meal♪

Start cooking right away in the kitchen building and barbecue area!

*On the island, the use of open flames is strictly prohibited except in the kitchen, barbecue area, and fire circle.

There is an attached grilling stand next to the table. You can cook while watching the charcoal, and it's easy to use.

There are four tables set up in the barbecue area.

When the sun had completely set and I was getting hungry, I said "Kanpai".

Dishes that will change the concept of camping food will appear one after another, including the gorgeous-looking ``cheese fondue'' with camembert cheese in the middle, ``ajillo'' made with oysters from Akitsu, and ``pumpkin gratin'' with plenty of cheese. . The camping family is scary lol

At the end of the meal, enjoy coffee and homemade sweets. It was a luxurious time.

You can cook and eat camping food, or have a barbecue. Enjoy your own dinner!

Fishing|Get a fish♪

You can also enjoy fishing on Ryuojima if you bring your fishing rod and bait onto the island.

This is an experience unique to places facing the sea.

*Fishing is prohibited on the pier or in areas with prohibited entry signs.

The small fish were released, but it was still a great catch.

I was able to catch horse mackerel and kisu.

Breakfast|Kakimeshi, horse mackerel sashimi, etc.

Breakfast is full of freshly caught horse mackerel sashimi, shaved rice, pork soup with lots of toppings, and fried eggs.

The rice cooked in the rice cooker is so delicious!

By the way, you can rent rice bowls for free at the administration building.

Starry sky and sunrise | Spectacular views on Ryuojima

Unfortunately, on the day I accompanied the family, it was cloudy and I couldn't see the starry sky or the sunrise.

I really wanted to take pictures of the starry sky and the morning sun, so I visited again at a later date. Here I will introduce the situation at that time.

A starry sky that spreads all over the night sky

When you look at the night sky from a dimly lit campsite, you can see countless twinkling stars.

The starry sky seen from Ryuojima, where there are few lights, is so beautiful that you can't help but stare at it.

The photo below shows the starry sky seen from the wooden deck.

I was able to look at a very beautiful starry sky and have a relaxing time!

Sunrise over the beautiful islands of the Seto Inland Sea

We also recommend watching the sunrise from Ryuojima!

As the sky gradually brightens in the early morning, you can see the calm Seto Inland Sea. After a while, the sun gradually appeared.

The combination of the straight orange light reflecting on the water surface and the round sun creates a very magical scenery.

The starry sky and sunrise are dependent on the weather, so you may not be able to see it depending on the timing, but it is one of the most spectacular views in Higashihiroshima! Why not take a look at the starry sky and sunrise while enjoying camping on Ryuojima!
