Enjoy the nighttime lights along Saijo Sakagura-dori Street, and other local events

The Akari no Sanpomichi (Sakagura Stroll) event will be held on Saijo Sakagura-dori Street in Higashihiroshima City.

In addition to the nighttime lights on the sake breweries and chimneys along Saijo Sakagura-dori Street, this event features a variety of other unique activities. You can rent hand-held lanterns, enjoy a chimney tour (which is held only once a year), and watch the National Chidori-ashi Championship, where contestants showcase their best imitation of how a chidori (plover) bird walks (which looks similar to the staggering of someone who has had too much to drink).

The chimneys and white walls of the sake breweries on Saijo Sakagura-dori Street will be illuminated from Saturday, September 13 to Tuesday, September 23, 2025.

■ 7th National Chidori-ashi Championship

The 7th National Chidori-ashi Championship will be held at Saijo Honmachi Historical Square in Higashihiroshima City!
Contestants have one minute to present a performance based on how a chidori (plover) bird walks (which looks similar to the staggering of someone who has had too much to drink).
You won’t want to miss these unique and funny performances!
