Kamotsuru Sake Brewery

Sake brewery in Hiroshima where tradition and innovation thrive – Enjoy a world-renowned cup of sake

Kamotsuru Sake Brewery, located in Higashihiroshima City, is a long-established sake brewery founded in 1873. Named after Kamo, a local region, and tsuru, the Japanese word for cranes (birds) – which are a symbol of good fortune in Japan – this brewery has preserved the tradition of sake brewing for over 150 years while constantly pursuing innovation.

In 1898, Japan’s first power-driven rice polisher was installed in this brewery, revolutionizing sake brewing. Tokusei Gold Kamotsuru, released in 1958, remains a beloved long-seller to this day as a pioneer of daiginjo sake. In 2014, it received global attention when served at a dinner between U.S. President Barack Obama and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

Brewery No. 1, located at the center of the site, is registered as a national historic site and serves as a living museum for visitors. In addition to exhibits where visitors can learn about the sake brewing process, there is also a bar where you can enjoy sake that is only available directly from the brewery and special limited-edition seasonal sake. Don’t miss this special experience that is only available here. There is also a unique trick art photo spot where you can capture the perfect picture to commemorate your trip.
