Saijo Honmachi Historical Square

Multipurpose town square surrounded by sake breweries, where you can experience Saijo’s history and culture

Saijo Honmachi Historical Square is a multipurpose town square located east of the Enpokura (Enpo storehouse) of Hakubotan Sake Brewery. It is part of Kamotsuru Sake Brewery No. 1, on the historical site of the Saijo Sake Brewery complex. The ground at the entrance to the square features a painting of a sake brewery, with rows of breweries and chimneys in the background, depicting a scene that evokes the charm of Sakagura-dori Street. There is a rest area with a gazebo and benches, allowing visitors to relax during their stroll along Sakagura-dori Street.

You will also find a white mailbox with a special design that features Nonta, the tourism mascot of Higashihiroshima. If you mail a “Nonta postcard” from this mailbox, it will be stamped with a commemorative postmark. (Nonta postcards can be purchased from Saijo Sakagura-dori Street Tourist Information Center.)
