National Chidori-ashi Championship
Contestants showcase their best imitation of how a chidori (plover) bird walks
The National Chidori-ashi Championship is held annually in September at Saijo Honmachi Historical Square on Saijo Sakagura-dori Street in Higashihiroshima City. The championship was covered by multiple media outlets last year, and is expected to be a huge success again this year.
Contestants have one minute to present a performance based on how a chidori (plover) bird walks (which looks similar to the staggering of someone who has had too much to drink).
Even if you don’t participate, you can still watch the contestants’ performances up close for free.
Contestants have one minute to show off their unique chidori-ashi moves. There are no age restrictions, so anyone can participate.
Previous competitions have included many unique chidori-ashi performances, such as manzai (comedy duos), dancing, and parent-child teams.
